Working with Fractions
A fraction represents a part of a whole. The top number (numerator) tells you how many parts you have; the bottom number (denominator) tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
Adding and subtracting fractions requires a common denominator. Find the least common multiple (LCM) of the two denominators, convert both fractions, then add or subtract the numerators.
Multiplying is simpler: multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. Dividing by a fraction means multiplying by its reciprocal (flip the second fraction, then multiply).
Always simplify your answer by dividing both numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD).
